David A. Schones

                          About

David Schones (he, him, his) is the Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He received his Ph.D. in Religious Studies with a focus on Disability Studies from Southern Methodist University and his M.T.S. at Texas Christian University. His research is primarily on disabilities, proto-medicine, and gender in the ancient Near East and Greco-Roman periods. He also serves as the co-chair for the Comparative Studies in Religion Unit for the American Academy of Religion and the Second Temple Unit for the Scholars of Biblical and Related Literature.

David has taught undergraduate and graduate students at different religious studies departments including Austin College, Paul Quinn College, and Perkins School of Theology. He has also delivered papers at regional, national, and international conferences including the American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature. In addition to these presentations, he has multiple publications on the topic of religion, disability, and gender discrimination and has given public lectures on his research at institutions like Austin Presbyterian Seminary and the University of Texas. At Austin College, David teaches a wide variety of classes on biblical and extra biblical literature, disabilities and gender discrimination, sacred violence, and the methods in the study of religion.
